Takuan Soho's Dream works 夢

Ebru technique, Paintings

Mr Takuan Soho’s Dream works is limited collection of colourfully abstracted moments taken using the traditional style of Ebru and Suminagashi. This is a traditional style of painting that is created by floating paint on water. The image is then absorbed onto high quality acid free A3 paper. Depending on the outcome parts of the painting or the whole piece is used then framed into sleek white and black frames. Each piece ranges in sizes of w 33cm by length 41cm and the smallest being width 13cm by length 8cm. Each piece is signed off with the Japanese symbol for dream. This is a stamp I created using a laser printer. This symbol choice was inspired by a 16th century artist and poet of the name of Takuan Soho who used this symbol as the last thing he signed before he died. This can be seen in the book “Japanese death poems” the signing off symbol is stamped with multicoloured acid free stamping inks.
