This year I have furthered my film photography practice, engaging in what I call haptic exploration: using the camera lens to feel spaces, surfaces, textures & environments, the focus is to allow an automatic response to take over, taking images instinctively guided by a desire to capture something unrecognisable, distorted, defying scale. The result is the creation of a new abstracted image unshackled from its representational roots. The weekly work in the darkroom has been as automatic as taking the pictures, exposing colour natives on B&W papers, guided by instinct and aesthetics, pushing contrast and grain, with the end desire being to allow a language to evolve through the practice. The abstracted images shown will be a selection of those generated in the dark room over the year, allowing a dialogue between them to develop for the first time.
